Visitors or prospective members are very welcome to attend any of our Monthly Meetings, for a suggested donation of £3 (limited to three visits per person before joining, by National WI rules), which includes a cup of tea. These meetings are free for members.
We meet on the first Thursday of almost every month,* in the Gaskell Memorial Hall, Emesgate Lane, LA5 0RA, in the centre of the village (see map below). There is parking at and near the hall, and full disabled access.
*In January we sometimes move to the 2nd Thursday. In May we often meet on the 2nd Thursday, to avoid elections (which are held in the Gaskell Hall). In December we have a party, usually on either the 1st or 2nd Thursday: whichever doesn't clash with the Village Players' pantomine! It's a busy village.
The meeting starts at 7:30pm but the hall is open from 7pm.
We ask members to pick up and wear a name badge at meetings, to help people to get to know each other.
Our meetings include:
There is an optional light-hearted competition each month, usually on a theme related to the evening's speaker, and the winners' points (including a point just for entering!) are tallied at year end for the award of a small prize.

Our meetings include:
- Singing "Jerusalem" - linking us with other women across time and place (it was the anthem of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, and its copyright was assigned to WI after the NUWSS closed in 1928)
- Our speaker or activity - a wide variety of topics, taking advantage of the Gaskell Hall's sound system, and sometimes using its large projection screen and the Wi's digital projector.
- A cup of tea or coffee and a piece of cake
- Time to find out about forthcoming events and sign up or buy a ticket
- A minimal amount of formal business and reports back from previous events
- Time to meet and chat to old friends and new
